For the love of rocks...

Why do boys love rocks so much? All kinds of rocks...big, little, shiny, polished, all colors, shapes and sizes.  But they do so they hunt and look everywhere for cool looking rocks. They study different kinds of rocks, they want books about rocks and collecting them?  Don't even get me started.  You can never have enough rocks. I repeat Never! 

A few years ago, my husband and I went to Traverse City, Michigan for our anniversary.  I would have been fired as Ryan's mom if I didn't bring him home a Petoskey stone.  We got him a polished one and then a kit to polish his own.  Man was that a hit.

Well today was a little boring around the house so Ryan went digging in his room for something to do and ta dah, he found a kit he hadn't used.  So on with the polishing he goes...

That inspired him to get all his rocks out.  Man I forgot how many he has.  Some of them are very cool and it did entertain him for awhile today.

There are gold, bronze, green, white, blue, purple and multi color ones.  There is also a black arrow head which is the next coolest thing to rocks to a boy.

 Then there are ones that we just collect from hikes, the road, other peoples yards... LOL

And if you thought you didn't have enough rocks and any more room for more... you are wrong. You can always go get a storage container so you can have more. 

So for all of your sons who love rocks, let them collect and sort and arrange and display.  Teach them about what they love. Teach them to value and take care of things.  I know this is a constant struggle for parents. It is for me but keep at it. They will get what you reinforce.
